Perhaps I should include a 'normal' note so you can see how these two varies from what it should be, making them both error notes. I will go through my system of showing you what's what with my numbering method.... Let's use the pictures, and describe each one, then go to the narrative, then price figuring. 1) Shows the face (obverse) of both notes. [Bills] and one can use the enlarging tool for all of these pictures to get a great look at what we are talking about. A) One thing here, in picture #1, is the fact that the bills [notes] aren't the same size. The cutting person, was looking the other way, and did not quite get it right, giving one of the notes an extra error called a 'cut error" That's error #1. Also, one may observe that there are no letters after the serial #, but a star where the letter should be, making it a "STAR NOTE". If you're not sure what a STAR NOTE is, see the last line in this narrative, and I explain it. B) Notice the inking shade or density. One note has a very light inking of the 3rd printing, and one has a darker version of the green inking. This gives each note an error due to "improper inking". (Now, some folks, graders included, have different names or designations for errors. A rose by any other name is still an error. :^) (To use a euphamism.) That is two more errors, making three. Right?2) The 1963 A note has a nice low number. The lower the better. Us collectors love low numbers. Correct? YUP!3) Now to explain the inking density on the notes; one is under-inked, and one over-inked. In the case of the 'over-inking', notice the serial number on the one ending in 1133, it is much darker than necessary, [too much ink] and the 4th error...4) Error #4, the under-inking of the 3rd printing, the green seal and serial number are much lighter than the artist wanted, therefore, we have the 4th error.5) Error #5 & 6, BOTH ERRORS OF ALIGNMENT. Notice how the green seals are not in the centers of the big grey "TWO's" as they should be. 6) One has a backplate number of 600. Backplate numbers can be in the four figures, and collectors like specialty numbers. Don't we? 600 isn't low, but is's a nice even # and folks like even hundred numbers.5 & 6) show up close the shift errors and inking differences. 7) Picture #6 Shows the dramatic difference in the inking, over and under I call this picture.8) Picture 8 focuses in on the backplate numbers if you're interested in that like me.9 & 10) show the full backs of each note. Now on to describe an error note: An Error Note is a note which isn't done right as the engraver(s) wanted. Something is wrong, inking, alignment, cutting and a myriad of folds creases etc which gives us reason to call it an error.NOW, when the printer finds a sheet of notes which are not correct, he pulls the entire sheet, marks the errors, highlighting the series and serial number, and reprints the whole sheet. I have not figured out why, but when I make a mistake, cover it up (fix it) I don't tell the world of my mistakes. The BEP (Bureau of Engraving and printing) does. They take off the letter after the serial number (I always wondered why if they can take off the letter, why do they need it in the first place when that designation is all over the notes) [HA HA]Anway, the reason for the STAR is to denote a bill or bills which have been reprinted. This anomolie is always desired by the collector, and looking in the Whitman's Encycolpedia of Paper Money, you can quickly see a star note is worth much more than a normal properly printed note. (that seems odd to me, when a perfect coin or note gets the highest rating [70] where a star note is worth more. (Go figure). So... This leads us to a GREAT REVELALATON! READ ON---> Now we have just described an error note, star note, and what they do when they find it. Of course, when they find an error and fix it all we have is a star note. BUT!..... If it is a STAR NOTE, SHOULDN'T THE ERRORS BE GONE AND WE HAVE A PERFECT NOTE? Huh? Do you follow me? So, now what does that leave us....A STAR NOTE WITH ERRORS! Shouldn't they have fixed it and not have all these 'errors' in a STAR NOTE? Hun, shouldn't it,they we fixed it. But I can ONLY surmise that these notes were being printed on a Friday afternoon about 4:48 PM and the printer(s) wanted to head out fishing of something. These are extremely rare notes to have TWO star notes with errors. Oh, it does happen, and a few dealers I know have seen them, but these two together make them grin. I have been collecting these for a long time and just love them. Ok, on to pricing. The Whitman's Encyclopedia of Paper money shows the least errors to be worth $20 - $50 each and we have at least 6 errors, and I quit looking. 6 X $20 = $180.00 so far.$2 in face value (FV) = $182.00 (how's my math) Low serial number on one of them = $5 IMHO, = $187.00. Condition is a major part of a note's extrinsic (value more than FV){intrinsic value is FV or $1 each) The condition of these notes is a little different from the other, I'd say they are uncirculated and so being of little more than FV, Whitman;s says, $6 - $8, so we give it a $7 = $194.00, and the 1995 is also in uncirculated condition, and Whitman's says, $4 - $7 so we'll say $5, = $199.00. Now we have to ship it, so figure $5 = $204.00, and EBay and Pay pal suck up $13% = $5.97 = $209.97. AND I need about $200 that means $409.97. Ha Ha, just kidding. I'll take $10 thank you for all this work finding the notes, keeping them for decades, and writing this huge paper. Pant Wheeze.So, price is $219.97. Ok? OKAY?
